Curious about Edinburgh's centuries of Black History? Hop on a special hour-long walking tour in August along the streets around Ruma to find out, followed by a rum tasting at the bar!
Who was the wealthy Jamaican woman married to a Scotsman and living round the corner in the 1820s? Who was the nanny from a tiny Caribbean island who lived on Thistle Street and painted watercolours in the Highlands? Hear amazing stories of Black composers, ministers and activists who spoke in the area to the lumberjacks from Belize living on Queen St during WW2! Who of these folks may have made rum, refused to drink rum, carried out rituals with rum, or got drunk on rum?
Come and hear some real rum stories! Lisa Williams, a historian of Caribbean heritage and founder of Black History Walking Tours Edinburgh, will be your guide for the first hour, before we finish at the bar for a tasting of four excellent rums from around the Caribbean, tying in to the locations mentioned on the tour.
Tickets for Black History Walking Tour & Rum Tasting can be booked here.
