Here's a great interview with Bernd in which he talks about his way of working with horses and people and explains his philosophy. It gives a great insight into how he works and who he is:

***********************************************************************************************

Bernd is one of the most well-known horsemen in Germany and the surrounding German-speaking countries.

He started riding aged 14 and moved on to western riding when he was 17. He soon started working with Wolfgang Winkler and Brian Turnbull, before further honing his skills working with young or so-called problem horses during several stays in the US with Roy Sharpe, Steve Holloway and Bill Horn. Influenced by horsemen like Buck Brannaman, Ray Hunt and Jean-Claude Dysli, Bernd soon forged his own path.

He ran several ranches in Germany, before settling on the 7P-Ranch in Michelsneukirchen, Bavaria.

He has trained and worked with thousands of horses. Around 25 horses are with him and his two co-trainers at any given time for starting, training or remedial training. He also teaches regularly and holds frequent clinics and demos, either on his own ranch or at other ranches and stables throughout Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

In 2011 he was asked to take part in a newly-created TV series “Die Pferdeprofis”, to be shown on German national television (usually a yearly eight-episode run, shown on Saturday evenings on VOX). The show focuses on helping people with various kinds of horse issues. Bernd jumped at the chance, looking forward to being able to introduce his way of working, and horsemanship in general, to a wider audience. The show was a huge success right from the start, and it is now in its tenth year and going strong.

Bernd says: “The basic training of horses and the building of trust and cooperation start on the ground. Most problems with horses arise because many people start far above the point which their horse is currently at in its development. The horse should be allowed to work out what we are asking. Less coercion and a little more patience usually lead to a better result more quickly. Many important things are overlooked these days. The horse is a flight animal. Sure, everyone has heard this sentence, but what does this actually look like in practice? There can be many misunderstandings, and working together with the horse only makes sense if the rider is mentally on the job and does not let himself get rattled or even angry. Our typical human temper has no place in dealing with horses. Reward your horse immediately if he even thinks about working for you, because praise promotes willingness to cooperate. The horse cannot learn accuracy if the rider is not accurate. In addition, you need to really want to learn yourself as well, to want to think and reflect on what has happened. My goal is to show riders ways of finding their individual connection to their horse.

The aim of my training is to promote the strengths of the horse and to balance out the weaknesses, regardless of whether it is a young horse, a leisure horse or a competition horse.

My motto is "as much as necessary, as little as possible." The training of young horses starts gently, giving them a good foundation. The correction of problem horses is just as consistent and fair for the horse as a partner. Neither breed nor riding style play a role here. Lightness, suppleness and responsiveness are the basis of any kind of riding.”

The clinic on Saturday and Sunday will be taught in small group sessions. You and your group will have a morning and afternoon session on both days.

Bernd will teach groundwork or riding, for any ability of rider and/or horse. He’s happy to work with young and inexperienced horses and riders and is also more than happy to teach English riders. Your tack, way of riding or experience is irrelevant.

Bernd’s way of teaching and his group lessons are relaxed and fun. He’s encouraging and funny and always determined to help you with any issues you may have. He’s got a wealth of knowledge and a great way of passing this knowledge on to you and your horse. He’s also happy to ride your horse to help and demonstrate things.

When booking, please let us know what your background is and what you’re interested in doing, so that we can make sure we put you in a group that has similar interests, so that you can get the most out of the clinic.

One-on-one sessions are going to be held on Thursday and Friday. You may book as many sessions for you and your horse(s) as you wish, providing there are still free slots available. These can be anything from groundwork, ridden work, help with behavioural issues, trailer loading, working on a particular thing, etc.

***********************************************************************************************

As always, spaces are limited, so please get in touch with us via the page or email us at aG93ZHkgfCBibGFja2ZvcmRnbGVuICEgY29t to book your space.

Disclaimer: In the past, we’ve unfortunately had several people pulling out of our clinics at the very last minute. This meant we were unable to fill the slots at short notice, resulting in our having to make up the deficit ourselves.
We therefore require advance payment.
Deposit for each clinic day is £50, which is non-refundable. We are happy to accept payment in installments for rest of the amount. The final payment must be received by 1st July. Cancellations after this date are non-refundable, unless you are able to find a replacement, or we have someone on our waiting list.

Stabling and grazing is available for £5/night/horse for grazing and £15/night/horse for stabling.

Please get in touch as soon as possible if you'd like to book in.
