The annual Bilberry Sunday Walk continues. Meet at the GAA Pitch at 11am. Brendan Farrell, Chairperson of Ardagh Tidy Towns will lead the walk as usual. This tradition was revived in 2012 by Brendan and Ann and Annette of Creative Ardagh and continues to remind us of the importance of connection to place and the beauty of the environment that surrounds us and was precious to our ancestors. In ancient times the bilberries of Brí Leith were collected and brought to Tara for the Lughnasa festivities. In later years locals gathered to collect them. This tradition died with the plantation of the forests and was revived again in 2012. Join us for a lovely saunter and learn about your ancient heritage and the nature that surrounds you.
