The first peoples of northern New England & Eastern Canada are the creators of the region’s first stories. Koluskap is the most familiar & renowned character in Wabanaki oral tradition. This program will explore these stories, which have been repeatedly told & retold, oral & written, historical and contemporary, in verse and prose, in music and art, in their original languages and in many translations – with many variations.

Charles Cantalupo is a literary scholar and critic now residing in Eastport, with books ranging from Thomas Hobbes to Ngũgĩ wa Thiong’o. He is Distinguished Professor Emeritus of English, Comparative Literature, and African Studies at Penn State University.
