About the event

Public Lecture: The Architecture of Northeast Summer Colonies, by Willie Granton
Professor Willie Granston will present a talk on the late 19th early 20th century architecture of summer colonies along the northeast coast at the Tides Institute's Congregational church building on Friday, July 18, beginning at 5 pm. An architectural historian, Granston is a visiting assistant professor of fine arts at Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut. Drawing on his extensive research, his talk will include references to the summer colonies and land developments along the eastern coast of Maine, east of Mount Desert, and into neighboring New Brunswick including Grindstone Neck, Petit Manan, Schoodoc, Lakenwild, Campobello and St. Andrews. Attached photograph by Davis Loring in our collections is of the Queen Anne style Tyn-y-Coed Hotel on Campobello Island, New Brunswick that was built in 1882. It was one of three hotels that were built on Campobello during this time.
