As part of our Summer of Birds series, we are partnering with the Sullivan County Library for a special movie event.
Join us for a movie matinee featuring the film The Big Year, about two bird enthusiasts trying to defeat the cocky, cutthroat world record holder in a year-long bird-spotting competition. The film stars Jack Black, Owen Wilson, and Steve Martin.
In birding, a Big Year is seeing or hearing as many different species of birds as possible in a calendar year. This 2011 film was inspired by the true story of three men who competed in a Big Year birding competition in 1998. They crisscross the continent following migration patterns and heading for storms that force birds to ground with some hilarious mishaps along the way. Who will win, at what cost, and with what rewards?
During the end credits, photos of every bird found by the winner are shown.
The public is invited to enjoy this quirky comedy on Friday, August 15, at 1:00 in the Sullivan County Library. Snacks will be provided by Loyalsock Foundation.
The Sullivan County Library is located at 206 Center Street, Dushore, right across from the post office.
