A traditional DMCA Open Freeplay Day. If you are reading this, and you are from a HEMA club — you are invited!
Steel/synthetic/foam longswords, messers, sabres, rapiers, daggers, arming swords and buckers, and so on - bring all your toys.
General rules:
1. If you are going to fence with someone you don't know, discuss the acceptable level of intensity first, check whether the opponent is happy with grappling, and make sure you both use adequate gear for the weapons you've chosen. No throwing in grappling!
2. There will be weapons (and possibly kit) to borrow, but do ask the owner before borrowing something.
3. Do not pair steel longswords with steel one-handed weapons because of the risk of breakage. Nylon longswords vs nylon one-handed weapons is ok.
You will need to have a mask, gloves and (ideally) a jacket as a minimum. There will be a very limited number of club masks and gloves to go around. Without a jacket, you will be limited to either foams weapons or a slow play.
The session will take place in our usual venue: Freeman's Quay Leisure Centre, 1st floor, large hall past the gym. The nearest parking: Walkergate Car Park across the road. Changing rooms and showers are available on the ground floor.
