Danger Hall
Danger Hall is a new quartet from vets of the Raleigh/Chapel Hill/Durham music scene, Steve Grothmann (bass), Daniel Hall (drums), Peter Lamb (tenor sax), and Shepherd Lane (pedal steel), who together make groove-based, partly improvised music with original tunes and unexpected covers. Shepherd's pedal steel provides a unique sound for the group and leaves plenty of space for rhythmic improv. Dan, Peter, and Steve have a long history going back to the old-school R&B and trad jazz favorites Countdown Quartet in the early 2000s. Now with Shepherd these friends bring together broad musical tastes—sources or influences you might hear include Sonny Sharrock, Sonny Rollins, Can, Charlie Haden, Cuban son, David Bowie, Western swing, Monk, Beach Boys, Eric Dolphy…their goal is to avoid limits.
