In a coaching landscape where our industry is under public scrutiny, days like this are more relevant than ever before.
Coaching the Process and Defining Success with Rob Lovatt FBHS gives coaches the chance to step back, reflect, and strengthen the foundations of good practice. Not through lectures, but through real horses, real riders, and real conversations.
Rob is a Fellow of British Horse Society, BHS Chief Examiner and an Honorary Fellow of Lancashire University for his commitment to vocational training, with decades of experience coaching riders from grassroots through to elite level.
Rob’s coaching philosophy is; "Keep it as simple as possible for both the horse and the rider to understand, with a strong emphasis on explaining to horses, rather than making them do something".
Across six practical, discussion‑led sessions, Rob explores how empathy, balance, influence and the training scale shape effective, ethical coaching:
Session 1: Developing empathy through balance and understanding
Session 2: Developing basic influence & introducing the training scale
Session 3: Using the training scale to develop the way of going
Session 4: Applying the training scale & learning theory on the flat
Session 5: Developing rider skills for jumping
Session 6: Using the training scale & learning theory over fences
Each session blends live coaching with open discussion, giving you space to observe, question, and refine your own approach.
It’s thoughtful, practical CPD designed to support coaches and aspiring coaches at every level.
This day is open to everyone and will count as 6 CPD points for BHS Accredited Coaches as well as accredited CPD for Pony Club Coaches.
