Thank you for your interest in volunteering! Abilities Tennis Association of NC (ATANC) is thrilled to partner with Durham County Special Olympics and ENO Tennis Association to provide free, friendly tennis clinics for those with intellectual disabilities ages 8 and up.
Volunteers play an important role in making these clinics possible for the athletes. We do require that you have some level of tennis knowledge.
Volunteers will help on the courts assisting with ball and racquet drills to help teach the Abilities athletes the highly adaptive game of tennis. Abilities athletes range in skill level with some learning how to hold and swing a racquet to hit red-dot starter balls and others playing full court with regular yellow balls. Here is ATANC's Volunteer Overview Video that helps explain the way clinics are run and how volunteers support the program. The ATANC coaches are Carl Laird (Q2FybCAhIExhaXJkIHwgZ21haWwgISBjb20=) and Gonzalo Arriagada (Z29uem8xMHMxOTcxIHwgZ21haWwgISBjb20=).
Volunteer Requirements are listed below for those 18 and up. Please let Coach Gonzo know when this is complete. It takes about 2 hours to finish, but it does not have to be done in one sitting.
