Ten years ago, the wheels turned at the last deep coal mine in Britain for the final time. Across the coalfields, miners and their families mourned for their industry and their way of life. Now, A Northern Requiem celebrates those people and commemorates their loss in this new choral work which blends together the Latin Requiem Mass with contemporary poetry in a tribute to the men and women of coal.
A Northern Requiem will transport you from the roar of the picket lines to the humble act of remembrance for miners past.
With a choir of over 100 voices drawn from across the country including Durham-based Northern Spirit Singers, A Northern Requiem is accompanied by the majestic power of Harlequin Brass, and the mighty cathedral organ.
