About the event

40th Kwanzaa Festival
Join the African American Dance Ensemble as we celebrate our 40th Kwanzaa Festival. Kwanzaa is a joyous occasion for ALL individuals, emphasizing family, friends, and the bounty of the earth. This annual event by AADE highlights the holiday season and the rich diversity of the Triangle, providing a wonderful opportunity to embrace family, community, and culture. Kwanzaa honors the values of family, community, and culture, focusing on seven core principles that serve as foundations for peace and progress in our neighborhoods.

Come together on January 1st to honor the principle Imani, or Faith, at The Historic Durham Armory (212 Foster Street, Durham, NC). Doors will open to the public at 11:00 am, with performances kicking off at 2:00 pm. Kwanzaa is free and accessible to everyone.

As we mark our 40th year, Kwanzaa aims to engage our youth through dance, history, and the arts. Our motto is: Peace, Love, Respect for Everybody. We strive to create positive opportunities for youth and underserved communities through the arts, helping them to overcome challenges. Kwanzaa attracts a wide audience, as AADE is dedicated to preserving and promoting the rich traditions of African and African American dance and music within the broader community. In celebration of these principles, this day will feature health screenings, a Children’s Village, delicious food, and plenty of dancing, ensuring fun for the whole family. Kwanzaa Fest serves as both a marketplace for vendors and a performing arts concert, brimming with dance, music, poetry, and more.

In memory of Baba Chuck Davis, donated canned goods and toiletries will be provided to a local non-profit organization.
