Please join us on Thursday, August 28 from 5-7PM at 11th Street Station for Durango Green Drinks! Hosts this month are La Plata Economic Development Alliance, Environmental Center at Fort Lewis College, and Friends of Dark Sky Durango. Green Drinks is a time to get together, network, gather in community, and hear from local organizations. Folks can have any kind of beverage or no beverage if they like.
La Plata Economic Development Alliance - For 25 years, the La Plata Economic Development Alliance has worked across sectors to make La Plata County a place where people can live, work, and build a good life. They invest in the systems that make life here work—including housing, childcare, and career development—by bringing partners together, unlocking funding, and driving local solutions. Their Housing Catalyst Fund supports affordable housing projects. Their Childcare Investment Strategy lays out real steps to expand access for working families. And through Project RUN, they offer micro-credential training that help people grow their skills and careers.
They believe economic development is about people, place, and potential. By focusing on what our community truly needs to thrive, we’re building a more resilient economy and a stronger future for everyone.
Environmental Center at FLC- At the Environmental Center, students lead the charge in creating a more environmentally and socially responsible world. Through hands-on projects that tackle critical environmental and social issues, their programs empower students to foster change on campus and beyond. From advancing sustainability initiatives to building lasting community partnerships, students will find meaningful opportunities to make a real impact—and be part of a movement for a better future.
Friends of Dark Sky Durango- DarkSky Colorado is the only statewide nonprofit organization solely dedicated to restoring the nighttime environment and safeguarding communities and wildlife from the impacts of light pollution. As a chapter of DarkSky International, we are part of a global movement working toward a future where the natural night sky is protected as a vital and shared heritage. We believe that preserving darkness at night is not just about seeing stars, it’s about protecting human health, supporting wildlife, and fostering a deeper connection to the natural world. From the mountain towns to the high plains, our work ensures that Coloradans can experience the beauty and benefits of natural night for generations to come.
