Description:
How do symbols live in the body? What might we learn when we approach the unconscious not just through analysis, but through breath, gesture and sensation? In this experiential workshop, we’ll explore the Jungian terrain of image, memory and meaning by moving with it — gently, curiously and somatically. We’ll create space to sense our way into the unconscious as something that pulses through the tissues, not just the intellect.

This class welcomes all bodies and ranges of mobility; participants will be guided through accessible movement explorations that emphasize internal awareness over outward form. Together, we will ask: how do we carry archetypes in the musculature? What forgotten parts of ourselves can we remember through the body’s wisdom? Expect a blend of guided movement, quiet reflection, and group discussion — an invitation to feel, rather than think, your way into the depths.

Melissa Word is an artist, dancer, writer, somatic facilitator and death midwife. Her work takes the form of live performance, workshops, textile collages, drawings and a podcast. She specializes in creating transformative group experiences for people who want to feel more creative and connected to themselves — quilting classes for grief, movement classes for anxiety relief and body-image repair, voice work for expanding consciousness. She is the host of the podcast Witch Sweat, a radio show at the intersection of art, death, movement, and spiritual self-inquiry. Her performance and visual work has been presented by the High Museum of Art, Hambidge Center for Arts and Sciences, Dashboard, ATL Airport Art, The Lucky Penny, Ferst Center for the Arts at Georgia Tech, Wonderroot, The University of North Carolina Charlotte, Triptych Collective and KIN.
