Starting in 2020, the Minot HOG Chapter & the Black Magic HOG Chapter (now District 1) have ridden to the International Peace Gardens to pay our respects to those lost in 2001. There are beams from the Twin Towers on the American side of the Peace Gardens, which feels like a fitting place to pay tribute.
This is an overnight ride. The western group will leave Williston at 10:00 AM Saturday, September 13th. We will leave from the Maverick (formerly Kum & Go) located at 910 11th St E. We will make our way to Minot to meet the eastern group at Magic City Harley-Davidson. From MCHD, we will make our way to Rugby, Dunseith, and our stop for the night just south of the Canadian border.
Accommodations are generously being provided by Ed Steckler of Minot. He owns a campground, complete with cabins, on a private lake just a few miles from the Peace Gardens. There is a shower house, fire pit, and kitchen area available. There are beds in the cabins, but packing a sleeping bag is recommended. Also, if you'd like to bring a tent and camp, that is fine, too.
Mr. Steckler does not charge us for the use of his facilities. We can cook out there, and the only cost will be everyone pitching in for supplies for the BBQ. Or we could ride into town to a restaurant if everyone would rather. We can decide the day of. Once you see how nice Ed's place is, though, you may not want to leave.
Sunday, September 14th, we will head to the Peace Gardens. If you're not familiar with the International Peace Gardens, they do straddle the American & Canadian border. You will not have to go through customs on the Canadian side, but we will have to stop at the border crossing coming back into North Dakota. Don't forget your passport! When the group is ready to leave the Peace Gardens, we will head home.
Now, this part is important. To make sure we have enough bed space in the cabins, we need an accurate head count. We would like to give Ed an accurate head count at least two weeks in advance. That would put the date on Saturday, August 30th. If you plan to go, PLEASE respond before then.
