Nature’s Ink Workshop(1) and Exhibition

Forage. Create. Exhibit. A Botanical Ink Workshop at the Dunlavin Arts Festival

This May and June, we’re inviting curious beginners, nature-lovers, and creative souls to join a two-part Botanical Ink Making Workshop as part of the Dunlavin Arts Festival. It’s a hands-on experience where over the course of two workshops you’ll forage for natural materials, create your own inks, and use them to make a piece of artwork that will be exhibited during the festival. We’ll be using foraged leaves, flowers, and bark from around Dunlavin to make plant-based inks—no previous experience needed. You'll learn to identify dye plants, forage responsibly and hear a bit of history about traditional ink-making in Ireland.

Workshop Details
Day One – May 31st, 1pm–4pm: Forage and gather your materials, learn ink-making techniques, and brew your first batch.

Day Two – June 7th, 1pm–4pm: Create an artwork using your handmade inks, which will then be part of the Dunlavin Arts Festival exhibition.

Location & Accessibility: Weather permitting, we’ll be working under the old tree on Market Green. If it rains, we’ll head indoors to An Lár.

What to bring: Comfortable waterproof shoes, a rain jacket just in case, and clothes you don’t mind getting splashed with a bit of ink. Bring a bite to eat too, it’s a relaxed day; we’ll take a break together.

It’s a beautiful way to connect with the land, learn a new skill, and see your work in a public exhibition. We’d love to have you along.
