This workshop focuses on using the voice effectively on set, whether directing an actor or getting a colleague’s attention. Kelly Hocking of The Voice Lab NZ combines voice theory and practical techniques to improve vocal communication skills. She covers topics such as maintaining comfortable volume, reducing vocal fatigue, and aligning the voice with intention.
· Fundamental vocal function and how it affects our communication.
· How our “vocal identity” affects our vocal habits.
· Calibrating the voice to match our desired communication style.
Kelly Hocking is a multidisciplinary performing artist, voice coach, and vocal technician based in Ōtepoti. Through her practice, The Voice Lab nz, she works with performers, speakers, and presenters nationwide to help them strengthen, sustain, and refine their vocal abilities.
Originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, Kelly has studied vocal pedagogy and voice science in both the United States and New Zealand, developing a comprehensive understanding of the voice across disciplines. Her clients include professional recording artists, actors, community arts organisations, and individuals seeking to explore and enhance their voice work.
Kelly holds a Master of Arts degree from the University of Otago and lectures in voice and movement.
