New Zealand’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic meant that our rates of disease and death were much lower than in many other countries. But as the world recovers from this defining global health crisis, questions about preparedness, scientific leadership, and social resilience remain more important than ever. In his new book The Covid Response, Professor Shaun Hendy MNZM FRSNZ reflects on our approach to the pandemic and the lessons learned for Aotearoa New Zealand and the world.
Professor Hendy will discuss with Professor Jemma Geoghegan, an expert in viral genomics and evolution, and Professor Dianne Sika-Paotonu MRSNZ CQS, an immunologist and advocate for heath equity, what Covid can teach us about the power of scientific collaboration and evidence-based policy, the long-term effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, and preparation for future pandemics and other global health challenges. The discussion will be facilitated by Professor Sir David Skegg KNZM OBE FRSNZ, a distinguished epidemiologist and a key figure in New Zealand’s COVID-19 response.
