We're finally bringing weekly balboa and blues classes back into the Swing Riot schedule! Sibby and Kieran will be running Bal and Blues drop-in classes appropriate for all levels from ‘never danced before’ to ‘have been rocking out the moves for years’.

Balboa is a swing dance that was first popularised in the ballrooms of Southern California while the Lindy Hoppers were lindy hopping over in New York. It’s a close-hold dance, a lot of shufflin’ fun, and great to fast music. Take a quick look here at some balboa dancing:

Blues music and dance were born in the American South, rooted in Black American traditions, which are themselves steeped in sub-Saharan African music and movement traditions. Blues dance is an improvised dance, both solo and partnered - it is relaxed, grounded and full of joy. Here’s Vicci and Adamo dancing the blues:
