Ceramic Workshop (over 2 sessions) 11-14 years

This two-session ceramic workshop will take inspiration from Tim Burton’s aesthetic, and

handmade art. In the first session, participants will build their own ceramic mugs

using slab and handle pulling techniques. Then, after a bisque firing, they’ll return the

following week to paint their mugs using underglazes, inspired by gothic, spooky, or

Burton-style design.

Inspiration images will be provided to help them design their mugs surfaces, after

which mugs will be fired in a clear glaze to preserve their work.

 Intro to slab-building, mug forming, and handle attachment

 Discuss and sketch Halloween/Tim Burton aesthetics for future decoration

 Personalisation with carving or texture as an optional extra for those who

finish their mugs quickly

Info: Day 2 – Surface Decoration:

 Learn underglaze painting and design techniques

 Explore how to use bold contrast, line work, and gothic colour schemes

 Apply designs directly onto bone dry mugs

 We will clear-glaze and final fire the pieces afterward
