Starting secondary school is a big step – not just for children, but for parents too.
You might be wondering:
Will they be able to find their way around?
Will they make friends?
What if they get overwhelmed or anxious?
How will they manage homework, new teachers, and lockers?
I get it — not just as a therapist, but as a mum of three. I’ve had three children go through this transition, and I remember all those questions that swirled in my own head:
Will they be OK? Have I prepared them enough? Are they ready for this next stage of independence?
That’s exactly why I created my “6th Class to Secondary School” workshop — a safe, supportive space that answers every question your child has (and probably hasn’t asked you yet), while giving you reassurance too. It is suitable for children who will be attending mainstream school
And after over 10 years of running this workshop, I can confidently say:
It works.
What your child will gain:
🧠 A better understanding of how their brain works under stress – and how to calm it
🗺️ Confidence in navigating a new school – from timetables to classrooms to lockers
👫 Skills to make new friends and keep old ones
📚 Strategies for staying organised, focused, and ready for homework and study
🧘 Relaxation and grounding tools to manage nerves
💬 Space to share their worries and realise they're not alone
And what you, as a parent, will get:
The peace of mind that your child is walking into secondary school feeling calm, confident, and capable
A smoother transition at home, with fewer meltdowns, worries, or “I don’t want to go” moments
A child who feels prepared, not panicked
Support from an experienced child therapist and parent who gets it, because I’ve been there too
Here’s what one parent said after their child attended:
“This workshop was exactly what my daughter needed. She was so nervous about secondary school, especially the idea of making new friends and managing her timetable. After the session with Melissa, she came home chatting away, excited even. The difference in her confidence was amazing – and such a relief for us as parents too.”
— Claire, parent of a 6th class student
Every child who comes to this workshop leaves saying the same thing:
“I feel much better now. I thought I was the only one worried.”
They’re not. And neither are you.
Let me help your child start this new chapter feeling strong, steady, and supported.
