New this Year – A Community Block Party
August 3rd, 2025 marks the 20-year observance of Dresden native Marine Sgt. and Virginia Beach Police Officer Brad Harper’s Sacrifice for his country. In remembrance of that sacrifice Brad’s hometown will be honoring him August 9th, 2025, with the Annual Harper Classic Memorial Run and new for this year a Community Block Party.
From the very beginning the Annual Harper Classic Memorial Run has been about Honoring Sgt. Harpers Sacrifice, keeping his name alive, and living the way he lived his life, through “A Life of Service”, by donating back to those communities and organizations that would be important to him. As we honor his sacrifice during this 20-year Anniversary we wanted this year’s event to also be about Family and Community. This year the Harper Classic is more than just a Race; it’s a community celebration honoring Sgt. Brad Harpers sacrifice.
The Dresden American Legion Post 399 and Muskingum Multisports are teaming up to host a Community Block party. Join us after the Race for a Community Block Party with plenty of food, drink, live music and fun for the whole family. Check out the Website for more details.
This is an important Milestone. 20 years since the Ohio-based unit, Lima Company, 3rd Battalion, 25th Marines lost 22 Marines and a Navy corpsman while operating near Haditha. In May 2005, nine Lima Marines were killed — several in the same improvised explosive device attack. In July, two more Marines and a corpsman were killed in action. The following month, 11 Marines riding in an amphibious assault vehicle were killed by a roadside bomb attack, which Sgt. Harper was one of the unfortunate souls.
