Hello Timp Grotto cavers! Our exciting August main meeting, tomorrow Tuesday Aug 19 at 7pm, will have THREE different presentations on cave discovery & exploration! Topics range from productive low-tech ridgewalking, through using LiDAR technology for leads, to the latest 3-D technology for cave measurement/survey -- the "Caveatron"! Regions covered will include the SL County Wasatch Front and Uintas east of Soapstone Basin. This great package will have appeal for ALL caver experience levels and tech-savviness!
1. Monique Renza & Adam Hay, who have been eagerly exploring for years in the Salt Lake Valley Wasatch, will describe their work. They have located numerous openings, caves, shelters, leads, and digs up multiple canyons using mostly old-school methods.
2. Kirk Johnson will share on using LiDAR for leads, and info on recent exploration in the Uintas just east of Soapstone Basin.
3. Casey Anderson, who has painstakingly assembled Timp grotto’s new Caveatron device, will present Episode 1 on this amazing new tool for cave survey and mapping. Come see 3-D imaging of locations such as the Draper Library, Thundershower, and/or Boomerang caves!
Neil Hooker will bring shiny new items from the Landjoff group gear order to distribute, and Andrew Erickson will report the latest on the Gauntlet SRT obstacle course and nearby events! We will have announcements on the postponed VTC training and upcoming Timp Grotto events.
