🕯️🏳️⚧️ TDOR is a solemn day to honor and remember transgender and gender-diverse people who have lost their lives to anti-transgender violence and suicide.
It began in 1999, founded by transgender advocate Gwendolyn Ann Smith to memorialize Rita Hester, a Black transgender woman who was murdered in
1998. Since then, it has grown into a global observance — a day for communities to come together, hold vigils, read the names of those lost, and reaffirm the commitment to ending transphobia and violence.
🕯️🏳️⚧️ We remember those we've lost, stand with the trans community, and commit to creating a world where every trans person can live freely, safely, and proudly.
