Hand Mending and Sewing

Emily Knapp, who has lived and sewn in Morris County her whole life has recently graduated from Rutgers University with a degree specializing in costume technology. Since Covid-19, she began volunteering my time with a group called Mutual Morris. We focus on community building hosting all kinds of events, monthly buy nothing events, seed starting workshops, grocery delivery for those in need, and other great programming. We are organizing sewing circle/ mending group for a one-day workshop, split into two sessions (morning and afternoon) where community members can bring their clothes that need some TLC, and we can talk about and get started on mending it! (very inspired by the historical make do and mend movement!)

As a young person, it’s often very difficult to find FREE activities centered on learning a new skill in our area. Another reason to love Mutual Morris, is all of these incredible events are free, they rely on each other to bring their skills, stories, and experiences to create these events.
