Our Trafalgar Weekend for 2025 will take place at THE BURFORD BRIDGE HOTEL near Dorking in Surrey. The Burford Bridge Hotel was used by Admiral Lord Nelson and Sir William and Lady Hamilton whilst ‘house hunting’ in July 1800. It was then The Fox and Hounds Coaching Inn.
The picturesque Hotel nestles beneath Box Hill and alongside the River Mole a couple of miles North of the market town of Dorking with train access from London’s Victoria and Waterloo stations and Reading, Guildford and Tonbridge. It is a short distance from Junction 9 Leatherhead on the M25.

For members arriving on Friday 17th October, there will be an informal talk on Nelson memorabilia in the evening (bring your own items for discussion) and make your own arrangements for dinner. On Saturday morning there will be a talk in the Garden Room on the past history of the Hotel and its Nelson connections including coffee and biscuits. This is followed by our AGM at 11am. You may order your own bar snacks before a coach will leave at 1.30pm to the nearby Denbies Wine Estate with a tour of the wine production and wine tasting included. Those with cars may travel direct, it is only a short distance. At 3.30pm the coach will return to the Burford Bridge Hotel via Box Hill with views over Dorking and the Surrey countryside. Our Trafalgar Dinner will start in their Tythe Barn at 6.30pm. The theme will be EMMA, and as many as you like will be welcome in period costume for which there will be a prize for the best dressed. Before dinner we will be entertained by a display of Regency Dancing by Mrs Bennet’s Regency Ballroom dancers. Our dinner will be the hotel’s EMMA MENU. Wine will need to be ordered additionally. We are combining with The Emma Hamilton Society, and Lily Style, their founder and Horatia descendent with tell us something of the Society. She will be followed by Author Julie Peakman an historian and Fellow of the Royal Historical Society. She is the author of the 2004/5 biography ‘Emma Hamilton’, and we will have copies available at the dinner. She has visited Naples to trace ‘the steps of Emma’ in her research. All the Raffle prizes will be Emma themed and we will have displays of Emma items of interest. The evening will close at about 10.30pm with our customary Immortal Memory toast in The Society’s new Silver Chalice.
On the Sunday morning members may like to conclude their visit to Surrey by attending the morning service at 0930am at St Mary the Virgin at Church Path, Merton Park, London SW19 3HJ, Nelson and Emma’s local Church about 45 minutes drive away. At the front is the ‘Nelson & Emma’ pew. It is a delightful small church regularly attended by Nelson and Emma. The church is open for visits all day.
