Life has gotten on top of me lately and I didn't put in a walk for the fourth Sunday of August - but discovered this year there are five weekends in this month, so taking that as a sign...
I've never taken SSWG to lovely Leith Hill because it's quite a popular spot that gets busy and you all know how I just love other people, but I'll be heading down to the coast next Sunday and can make this sorta on-the-way.
ABOUT THIS WALK
Boasting an 18th century gothic folly tower, this National Trust maintained location offers views as far as the English Channel in one direction and London's St Paul’s Cathedral in the other.
This 2.3 mile route goes through Wotton Common and up a long, steady but not awful incline to the tower, where we can stop to enjoy the lovely views. Then we'll return to the car park along a well-trodden main path. Leith Hill, unsurprisingly, is a hill so yes you can expect slopes, but this walk isn’t as hilly or steep as the ones signposted by the National Trust so, if you've done any of those, just know this is easier.
Header photo is Mike making friends on the path from the woods to the tower.
MEET LOCATION / PARKING
The forecast for next Sunday is currently relatively cool so it's a 10:30 set off (if weathermen change their minds, so may I). Meet at the rear of the Starveall Corner car park. This is the main car park for Leith Hill. It is quite large but, as I said above, this NT location is popular plus it's still the school hols so do allow time to park.
