Are you ready for the first Combat Wombat Clash?!
We sure are! With this beginner-focussed tournament we aim to give a first sparring experience in a tournament setting. Join for good vibes, fun sparring and new friends!
Am I a beginner?
You decide yourself if you are a “beginner”; we don't want to be overly restrictive. However, do
please “play fair”...
Some possible guidelines to help you assess if this might be a tournament for you:
- You’ve been doing HEMA regularly for 1-3 years
- You haven’t participated in many (1-2) tournaments outside of your club
- You haven’t made a top 8 yet
- You have your own gear or can loan some from a fellow club member
- You think durchwechseln is a type of German sausage (and thought that was funny)

We will work with a limited number of registrations per club / location. More on that in a future announcement.
The tournament is open for both Belgian and Dutch fencers!
This will be a mixed gender tournament, welcoming all.
Minimum gear requirements:
- HEMA-ready fencing helmet with back of the head protection (can be overlay). The
helmet should not be visible damaged (torn mesh, holes, (deep) dents)
- HEMA fencing jacket with proper padding / protection
- Throat protector (worn below the vest)
- Elbow protection (either separate or as part of the vest)
- HEMA gloves fit for sparring (for example SPES lobster gloves are good, Red dragon
gloves or lacrosse/hockey gloves are not!)
- For men/AMAB: cup/toque (worn inside trousers)
- Clean shoes fit for an indoor sporthall
- Long trousers that cover the entire leg
You can bring your own steel feder or you can use a nylon feder provided by the organization. If you bring your own steel feder, it is expected to be fit for HEMA (not too stiff, not too short/long, blunt edges and a properly blunted tip, no spikes/sharp ends, …). Non-feders (e.g., longsword simulators) will most likely NOT be accepted.
Recommended extra gear:
- Breastplate (worn underneath the vest)
- Upper leg protection (padded pants, overlay)
- Shin and knee protection
- Forearm/wrist protection (if not part of the gloves / vest)
- For women/AFAB: cup/toque
Note that the tournament organizers will NOT provide loaner gear besides the nylon feders. You are expected to bring your own gear.
