Event Description:
Unleash your creativity and dive into the timeless art of leather crafting!
Ever wondered about the story behind a beautiful leather bag or a durable wallet? Curious about how to transform a piece of hide into a functional work of art? Join us for an exclusive, day-long workshop designed to take you from a curious novice to a confident beginner in the world of leather and leather goods.
This comprehensive workshop is perfect for aspiring crafters, designers, hobbyists, or anyone looking to learn a new, rewarding skill. No prior experience is necessary!
What You Will Learn?
Our workshop is carefully structured into two distinct segments to give you a complete understanding of both the material and the craft.
🔵 Segment 1: The World of Leather (Morning Session | 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM)
This theoretical session will build your foundation. You can't master the craft without understanding your canvas! We will cover:
Introduction to Leather: History and significance.
• The Tanning Process: A deep dive into Vegetable Tanning vs. Chrome Tanning. What's the difference and when to use each.
• Leather Categories & Grades: Learn to distinguish between Full-Grain, Top-Grain, Genuine, and Bonded leather.
• Types of Hides: Understanding the characteristics of cowhide, goatskin, sheepskin, and more.
• Identification & Selection: Learn how to inspect, identify, and choose the perfect leather for your specific project.
☕ Lunch Break (1:00 PM - 2:00 PM)
🔴 Segment 2: The Art of Crafting (Afternoon Session | 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM)
• Put your knowledge into practice! This hands-on session is where you bring leather to life. We will guide you through:
• Introduction to Tools & Machinery: Get familiar with essential hand tools (cutters, bevelers, punches, needles) and basic machinery.
• Safety First: Proper handling of tools and workshop safety protocols.
• Pattern to Product: Learn techniques for pattern making, precise cutting, and skiving.
• The Art of the Stitch: Master the traditional and durable "saddle stitch" by hand.
• Finishing Touches: Learn professional techniques for edge burnishing and finishing for a polished look.
Hands-On Project: You will create your very own handmade leather item (e.g., a cardholder or a keychain) from scratch to take home!
