Detroit, MI – On Monday, November 10, 2025, The Preservation of Jazz Monday Night Music Series Tributes proudly presents A Tribute to Incognito & The Brand New Heavies — a night that takes audiences back to the golden era of acid jazz, soul, and funk fusion. This one-night-only event will be held at the legendary Aretha’s Jazz Café, with Mike Bonner as host and an opening performance by Sky Covington.

Doors open at 6:00 PM and the show begins at 7:30 PM. Tickets are $35.

The evening stars Detroit’s powerhouse ensemble, Level Rizon Band, featuring Kevin & Denise Edwards. Known for their dynamic sound, electrifying stage presence, and versatility, Level Rizon has carved out a space as one of Detroit’s most beloved bands for soul, R&B, and jazz fusion. With tight musicianship, soaring vocals, and groove-driven performances, Level Rizon embodies the essence of the acid jazz era and carries forward the energy of groups like Incognito and The Brand New Heavies.

Whether reimagining classics or delivering originals, Level Rizon connects deeply with audiences, creating shows that are part concert, part celebration.

Formed in London in 1979 by guitarist Jean-Paul “Bluey” Maunick, Incognito became pioneers of the acid jazz movement. Known for hits like “Don’t You Worry ‘Bout a Thing,” “Always There,” and “Still a Friend of Mine,” Incognito fused jazz, funk, soul, and dance grooves into a sound that resonated around the world. Their revolving lineup of vocalists and musicians made each performance a fresh, soulful experience, with the band consistently setting the standard for stylish, groove-based jazz fusion.

Emerging in the mid-1980s, The Brand New Heavies cemented themselves as one of the most influential acid jazz and funk bands of the era. With chart-topping hits like “Never Stop,” “Dream Come True,” and “Stay This Way,” they captured the spirit of an age when music was bold, funky, and irresistibly stylish. Their blend of funk rhythms, jazzy brass, and smooth vocals created a timeless catalog that continues to inspire artists and thrill audiences worldwide.
