(not) The Law plays the songs of The Law. The Law was one of Iowa’s earliest bands to play original punk/new wave (or whatever you want to call it). Charlie Chesterman (a/k/a Chuckie Suicide) and Tim Johnson formed The Law in 1979 from the ashes of White Lunch (Des Moines’ true original punk band). Joined by Tad Hutchison (drums), Kevin Hensley (sax and organ), and Mac Stanfield (bass), the band quickly grew a large and enthusiastic following that filled its high energy appearances at The Timber Tap, So’s Your Mother, and Iowa City’s Crows Nest. In 1980, The Law released its 7” vinyl EP “King Size Cigarette Plus Three Other Big Hits” (all songs penned by Charlie). In late 1981, the band moved to Boston, Massachusetts in quest of a larger music scene and returned a few months later for its final show at Mother’s. The Law bid farewell with the release of its 1981 cassette album “Instant Party”. Charlie stayed in Boston and formed ScruƯy the Cat, which Mac joined two years later. ScruƯy the Cat became a 1980s college radio favorite and Charlie continued to release solo albums into the 1990s and early 2000s. Tad went west to Seattle and joined the Young Fresh Fellows, another 1980s college radio favorite. Tim formed Des Moines-based 23 Lies and Kevin went on to play in Boston area bands Ravages of Time and Rattle Heatre. Fortunately, in 1980 The Law recorded a live, in-studio performance at Hawkeye Cablevision. It’s on You Tube:

(Not) The Law are Brian Beh (vocals), Ben Hopkins (guitar), Lee Bissmeyer (drums), Curtis Taylor (sax and keys), and Mac Stanfield (bass). (Not) The Law is under the direct authority and control of Ted Irvine, who bears the scars of having been in the front row of every Des Moines appearance of The Law.

Please note that the Reserved Table Add-On does not include a general admission ticket; each person must have their own general admission ticket for entry. For example, a party of three people would want to purchase three general admission tickets and one table. For the remaining tables, seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
