Join us at 3pm, May 31 and June 1, at First Presbyterian Church of Kirkwood for a musical journey celebrating the diverse and rich tapestry of American songs!
Like a beautiful tapestry, America has a rich, colorful heritage of music that reflects the diversity of our people. The history of music in the United States includes many styles of folk, popular and classical music. Some of the best-known genres of American music are rhythm and blues, jazz, gospel, spirituals, country, rock and roll and pop. Allegro's Spring Concert, "American Tapestry of Song" celebrates the impressive variety of backgrounds and experiences of our American people.
The St. Louis Legend Singers are special guests of Allegro Chorus for this concert. The ensemble, founded in 1940 by Dr. Kenneth Billups, is currently led by Director Emeritus Dr. Doris Jones, and Maestro Dwayne Buggs. The Legend Singers ensemble has received local and national acclaim and continues in its mission to perform and preserve the indigenous music of African Americans with an emphasis on spirituals, Jazz and serious sacred and secular choral music.

American Tapestry of Song Art Auction
An original textile was designed and created by Artistic Director, Merry Keller, for Allegro’s concert, “American Tapestry of Song”. The quilted art piece makes use of a mosaic pattern using small squares of batik cloth to create a gradient color palette that moves from deep purple to almost white at the top of the piece. The mosaic background is accented with a flowing musical staff and treble clef sign. The finished piece, including frame, is 28” X 40”.
You are invited to participate in supporting Allegro - A St. Louis Choral Community by submitting a bid for the exquisite original textile art piece created for this spring concert, "American Tapestry of Song", or by purchasing concert related merchandise that includes a jigsaw puzzle and a chorus t-shirt that includes an image of the textile art. In addition, your tax-deductible donation in support of Allegro may be designated to sponsor or underwrite specific items necessary for the production of this concert or you may simply give at a level that is right for you.
