DeRidder National Night Out

This year will you help deliver the message of National Night Out to our community? Our theme is Wild West!! Please support our community and law enforcement this year.

I love the Old West and am intrigued with its history. Among its famous ingredients, the pony express rider. He is described in a book in this manner, “Behind him a trail of tracks. Beneath him a pounding stallion, Before him miles of trail to cover. Within him a flint rock resolve. Squinty-eyed. Firm-jawed. Raw-boned.” Pony express riders had one assignment, deliver the message safely and quickly! They seized every advantage; the shortest route, the fastest horse, the lightest saddle…even the lightest lunch box. Only the best was hired. Could they handle the heat? Could they outrun robbers and ride through blizzards? Those selected were expected to ride 80 miles in eight hours, six days a week.
