Meet from 13:00. Leaving at 13:30.
We have recently been made aware of a fellow bike enthusiast who is fighting the biggest battle of his life. He lives right by our usual Santabike start points and is always a supporter of what we do, so the start point for this ride will be Willington services so that we can end at The Grove.
We know that when we come together as a community, we make amazing things happen and I think that the exceptionally sad story below is so deserving of our support.
Each round of treatment costs over £7,000. Let’s see what we can do to chip in towards one of this treatments. Let’s make this the biggest ride Stapenhill has ever seen! All are welcome and the ride will be 50cc friendly.
Registration fee of £5 per bike please.
David who is 38 years old, has recently been diagnosed with Stage 4 Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Duodenum which has spread to the liver—an incredibly rare and aggressive cancer. There have only been 22 recorded cases worldwide, which means treatment options are extremely limited.
David is more than just a patient—he’s a devoted father to his 9-year-old son, and they share a bond that’s beautiful to witness. All David wants is the chance to watch his boy grow up—to be there for birthdays, football matches, school plays, and all the moments that matter.
The only option giving us hope right now is the immunotherapy drug pembrolizumad as this has been proven to work on this cancer in other locations, and in some circumstances full results, but tragically, David’s insurance will not cover the cost of the drugs because it has not been proven in this extremely rare location. We’re now fighting not just the cancer, but the clock. These drugs are his best chance at more time with his 9 year old son Stanley, and with all of us.
What We’re Asking For
We are trying to raise £184,128.00—100% of which will give us access to the immunotherapy drugs David urgently needs.
Without this treatment, we don’t have many options left.
