Free Family Music Event with Shawny
A former elementary school music teacher who is now a full-time children’s musician, Shawny brings more than 20 years’ experience with kids to the table. He is so in touch with his inner child that children instantly recognize him as a big, goofy friend! Shawny strives to create a safe space where kids can be as silly, imaginative, and energetic as they wish.
Shawny’s live show is interactive, engaging, and encourages children to be active participants. His songs are music and movement based and feature shakers, colourful scarves, lots of bubbles and sometimes a parachute. Shawny sings and plays guitar and ukulele throughout the performance Shawny also keeps it fresh by dressing up in different costumes (pirate, pilot etc.) Children are encouraged to move, dance, and sing along with Shawny. His pop-rock styled original songs are silly and energetic but also contain deeper themes of inclusivity, empathy, and kindness towards yourself and others. Children are guaranteed to have a fun and memorable time but also to leave the show with a deeper understanding and appreciation for active movement and being kind to themselves and others.
A Shawny show is typically 45 minutes in length and follows a similar structure. It starts with a hello song to break the ice a little bit. Then to get the kids out of their shells and to show that Shawny is a friendly and fun person, there are 2 or 3 music and movement songs that require active participation (freeze dances, adventure songs etc). Once everyone is warmed up, everyone is given shakers and asked to participate in some sing-alongs that address themes of kindness and inclusivity. Then so as not to let the children get too antsy, children are given colourful scarves. They will wave, shake, and throw their colours while singing one movement song and one inclusivity song. This is the point of the show where the performance turns into a party. Everyone has shakers and scarves and will now be asked to participate in two super fun songs using Shawny’s bubble machine. After the party, we will unfortunately have to sing our goodbye songs as Shawny thanks the group for coming and for playing music with him. If there is time afterwards, Shawny also welcomes high-fives from children, a Q&A period, and even a chance for children to try out one of his guitars.

Le spectacle de Shawny est interactif, engageant, et encourage les enfants à être des participants actifs. Ses chansons sont basées sur la musique et le mouvement et comportent des shakers, des foulards colorés, beaucoup de bulles et parfois un parachute. Shawny chante et joue de la guitare et de l'ukulélé tout au long de la performance. Shawny garde aussi les choses fraîches en se déguisant en différents costumes (pirate, pilote, etc.). Les enfants sont encouragés à bouger, danser et chanter avec Shawny. Ses chansons originales au style pop-rock sont amusantes et énergiques, mais contiennent également des thèmes plus profonds d'inclusivité, d'empathie et de gentillesse envers soi-même et envers les autres. Les enfants sont garantis de passer un temps amusant et mémorable, mais aussi de quitter le spectacle avec une compréhension et une appréciation plus profondes du mouvement actif et de la bienveillance envers eux-mêmes et les autres.
