From early travel to the steamboat era, discover how Cincinnati became a hub of riverboat construction, second only to Pittsburgh, and how these “river queens” shaped our region’s economy, entertainment, and culture.
Learn about the lives of those who worked and lived aboard the boats, and the challenges they faced - from unpredictable water levels to collisions, fires, and explosions. The river remains vital to Cincinnati’s commerce today, and authentic steamboats still dock along our shores.
🎉 This presentation will also prepare you for America’s River Roots, a five-day celebration happening October 8–12, 2025, along the Cincinnati, Covington, and Newport riverfronts. As part of America’s 250th anniversary, the event will feature:
