South Yorkshire musicians Danny Clarke (from Cudworth) and Lennie Wesley (from Conisborough) formed an unlikely duo that became influential pioneers of contemporary British folk music. As The Foggy Dew-O, they made hundreds of TV and BBC radio appearances, recorded three albums with Decca, and gained millions of fans. Their regular slots on Granada TV’s Scene at 6.30, seen by up to 19 million viewers, boosted their fame, as did their award-winning original song “Reflections.”
They brought acoustic folk to the northern cabaret circuit, opened their own folk clubs, and helped introduce modern folk music to wider British audiences—much like Bob Dylan, Pete Seeger, and others were doing in the US. Their story includes career-changing setbacks, including management troubles and a sudden life-threatening illness that halted their rise to major stardom. Along the way, they crossed paths with many artists who later became famous, including David Bowie, Billy Connolly, Gerry Rafferty, Barbara Dickson, Mark Knopfler, Ralph McTell, and Paul Simon.
Danny now performs with collaborator Spencer K. Gibbins.
Enjoy a nostalgic evening of songs, stories, poetry, live art, and memories of the 1960s, plus book signings and conversation with two seasoned performers.
