This special event will transport you back in time to relive the magic of Miles Davis.
Described by Marke Andrews music critic for the Vancouver Sun as “one of Vancouver’s best bands” Electric Miles transcends a mere tribute with this evening’s gifted musicians using Miles Davis’ mastery as a springboard for their own bold and personalized explorations. Electric Miles recreates Miles Davis’ iconic fusion of modern and classic jazz delivering relentless grooves fearless improvisation and spontaneous interplay—hallmarks of a defining era in the career of jazz’s best-selling and most influential artist.
From his early days touring with legends Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie—to his ever-evolving artistic reinvention Miles Davis remains one of the most influential American musicians of the 20th century. His groundbreaking work spans multiple genres including jazz blues rock and hip-hop shaping modern improvisational music in ways that still resonate today. Miles Davis and his countless collaborators—among them Parker Gillespie John Coltrane Ella Fitzgerald Quincy Jones Thelonious Monk Stevie Wonder Herbie Hancock Art Blakey Sonny Rollins and Carlos Santana —continually redefined American music across five decades.
Led by Ron Samworth (guitar) the stellar ensemble features Bill Clark (trumpet) Bill Runge (saxophones) Brad Turner (keyboards) André Lachance (bass) and Bernie Ardagh (drums).
As a special treat bandleader and Capilano University Instructor of Jazz Studies Ron Samworth will deliver a pre-concert talk tracing Miles Davis’ captivating evolution—from bebop and cool jazz to modal jazz modernism and ultimately jazz fusion.
This all-ages family-friendly performance offers free on-site parking.
