Delano Area Seed Swap 2026:
You are invited to a community seed swap on Saturday, January 10, 2026, upstairs in the Delano Heritage Center from 10 am to noon with a potluck lunch to follow.
What is a community seed swap? A time for gardeners to share seeds and celebrate locally grown seed varieties. Why a seed swap? So many reasons! Gathering the seeds of vegetables, flowers, herbs, and native plants is part of the gardening process. Saving seeds is important for the biodiversity, adaptability and resiliency of our food systems. Get old, new, and locally-adapted seed varieties. Sharing in a community is so fun and satisfying!
Who attends a seed swap? Everyone is welcome! If you have never gardened before, bring your curiosity and learn about seed saving. If you have been growing and saving seed for a while, bring your seeds and stories to share with the community. If you are a gardener looking for new varieties, come join in! You don’t need to bring seeds to the swap. Seed savers are happy to share their seeds and stories.
What to bring? If you have seeds that you’d like to share, please bring them! Label with the common name, botanical name (if possible), and year collected. Also, feel free to include any comments about germination, growing conditions, harvest and use notes.
Kinds of seeds allowed at this community seed swap:
• Open pollinated, heirloom, hybrid (not patented or GMO)
• Locally grown and saved
• Excess seed donated by sustainable seed companies
