WD Dog Training and Rattlesnake Aversion for dogs
is the best in the business of saving your dog's and your life!
Our training clinics are conducted in a safe, humane, and controlled environment ensuring the safety of your you, and your dog, and the rattlesnakes. The snakes utilized in our clinics have been humanely collected, and borrowed for the purpose of our trainings. They are snakes that are indigenous to the environment specifically that you are living in, in order to assure that your dog is exposed to the sight, sound and smell of the snakes from your specific geographical area. Early in the morning the day of the clinic Rusty carefully, and expertly hand milks each snake, to reduce the amount of venom each snake on the training course has in their sacs. Once he has arrived and is setting the course the Rattlesnakes are fitted with medical tape muzzles, that are carefully placed strategically on their head and mouth area (leaving room for breathing), but not able to open their mouth to bite. The snakes are kept in a cool location during the training, and are rotated and given breaks and rest. We honor and appreciate the Rattlesnakes that we utilize and borrow from the environment, they are keeping our dogs and us safe. The training course that Rusty has designed is brilliant and hits all of the senses perfectly with minimal stress to the dogs that are put through this critical training. In the first step, your dog will be fitted with a stimulation collar, and Rusty will find the working level of the dog (he will look for them to twitch an ear, to look at the ground and wonder what the feeling was, or they may stand up and look around, as if someone tapped them. Each fog has a different indication, and Rusty and the other trainers will be watching to see what your dog's specific sign is. Then once he has the collar level set, your dog is ready to go through the initial station. This is the first and most critical station. They will be led by a Trainer to walk past, very slowly a pile of live rattling and slithering rattlesnakes! Most dogs immediately go over to explore these loud, moving creatures, they often place their noses right onto the top of the pole of them, at that point Rusty will give your dog the stimulation collar correction and your dog will pop back (sometimes with a yelp) because they believe that those slithering and rattling things just bit them! Rusty yells "OUT!" and the Trainer runs ff of the course to settle and reset the dog. From there we take the dogs through each station to begin to lock in the smell, the the sight and the sound. The owner will be asked to join Rusty and the other trainer out on to the course so that he can have you physically see and learn what your dog's specific "Alert" is. Every dog is different. Some dogs are dramatic and very clear, some dogs are subtle and difficult to recognize their signs, and some dogs will go into flight and leave you. All of these are critical for you to know because they are life saving! Which is exactly what we are wanting.
