This workshop will be largely self-guided, with extended work periods for students to focus on their own creative projects. Participants should come prepared to create independently, as step-by-step art instruction will be minimal. Weโll explore the rich history of zines as an art form and learn a variety of techniques for making them. The final project will be based on the theme โMy Summer.โ
Students are encouraged to bring photos from their summer to use in a collage; images can also be printed in advance if sent to the instructors ahead of time. Participants should be comfortable working safely with scissors and X-Acto knives, and ready to spend focused time creating in a shared space.
This hands-on art intensive will introduce kids to the expansive world of zines; a grassroots form of literature known for its creativity, ingenuity, and rebellious spirit. Participants will explore the history of zines and experiment with different methods of making their own, all while helping to launch a free zine library for others to enjoy.
