Decorah Public Library is pleased to announce Decorah Public Cinema, a new monthly film screening program for adults beginning Friday, January 9, 2025, at 8 PM in the library's mezzanine.
Decorah Public Cinema screens independent and foreign films on the second Friday of each month, creating a space for the community to gather and enjoy thought-provoking films in a relaxed, welcoming environment. All screenings are free and open to adults 18 and older.
The first screening will feature Bugonia, the latest film from acclaimed director Yorgos Lanthimos (Poor Things, The Favourite), starring Academy Award winner Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons. Two young men, obsessed with conspiracy theories, kidnap the high-powered CEO of a major company, convinced she is an alien intent on destroying earth.
"We're thrilled to offer this new programming that brings our community together around the shared experience of film," said Zach Row-Heyveld, DPL assistant director. "The mezzanine provides the perfect setting for discovering new films and getting a chance to see things that don’t make it to local theaters."
Complimentary popcorn and snacks will be available, with a free will donation box to support future programming. Seating is first-come, first-served, and attendees are encouraged to arrive early.
