In this program, Professor Charissa Threat, Associate Professor of History at Chapman University and Associate Dean for Student and Faculty Advancement at Wilkinson College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences at Chapman University, will discuss the experiences of African American female nurses during World War II.
Learn about the recruitment of Black women in the Army Nurse Corps and the challenges of military service. See how their experiences were part of a larger civil rights campaign advocated by African Americans for “Victory over Fascism Abroad and Victory over Racism at Home” (The Double V Campaign).
An ASL interpreter will be present at the program for those who are d/Deaf or hard of hearing.

Making its Midwest traveling debut, this special exhibit honors the nearly 350,000 American women who served during World War II. With over 200 unique artifacts from The National WWII Museum’s collection, explore the efforts, struggles and accomplishments of these servicewomen, the impacts of which extend into the present day.
