SARAH Jane Morris is one of this country’s leading creative forces. She should be cherished, smothered in bubble wrap and preserved, because individuals don’t come along like her very often – someone who is constantly willing to experiment and reinvent themselves in the quest for musical excellence. Principled, always pushing boundaries and a great advocate of live music.

Famed for her duet of ‘Don’t Leave Me This Way,’ with Jimmy Somerville, of the biggest selling single of 1986, she launched her first solo album in 1989 and supported Simply Red around Europe, landing a radio hit with ‘Me and Mrs Jones’. In 1991 Sarah Jane wrote the English lyrics to a song with Riccardo Cocciante which went on to win ‘San Remo’. Sarah Jane’s English version of the song went on to have European success with Virgin Records. Sarah Jane has made 16 solo albums including various albums for Irma Records in Bologna, with whom she has a great musical friendship, she runs her own record label Fallen Angel Records and continues to be a trailblazer.

Her latest album is called The Sisterhood where she chose ten female artists, starting with Bessie Smith and ending with Kate Bush, Annie Lennox and Sinead O Connor.

The songs are about the women and the battles they often faced to be heard on equal terms – or even at all. The lyrics are always powerful and sometimes emotional.

The album was launched at The Alexandra Palace Theatre, London on International Women’s Day 2024 and is being taken on tour around the UK and Europe in March/April and May this year.
