About the event

History on Tap: Iowa's Rebel Girl
We'll focus on Pearl McGill and the Promise of Inclusive Unionism from 1894-1929.

This Thursday is a look at how workers in the freshwater pearl button industry organized unions to improve their wages and working conditions. Understanding the advocacy of the militant button workers of Muscatine shines a light on the larger struggle that swept the nation as mass production workers in the garment, textile, and button industries – many of whom were women – rose up to demand their rights.

Thursday, August 21
Drinks at 5 PM (Cash Bar with snacks)
Speaker at 5:30 PM
