Our annual Mud Crab Competition is back on Saturday, June 7th, and this year's event is set to be bigger and better than ever!
The DTBC Mud Crab Competition is a Darwin Trailer Boat Club members only event and therefore no entry fee applies. New members are welcome. Unlike previous years, the Mud Crab Competition is a team event with prizes awarded to the team and not individuals.

Registrations close 6pm, Thursday 5th June 2025.
Points accumulate over 3 months to determine the DTBC Mud Crab Champion.
COMPETITION RULES:
• Competition is held within the confines of Darwin Harbour, Shoal Bay and Bynoe Harbour, pots in at 6am of the competition dates.
• This is a Club members event only. The skipper and crew must be financial members of the Darwin Trailer Boat Club.
• All Mud Crabs must be of legal size according to NT Government Possession and limits.
o Males – 130 mm.
o Females –140 mm.
o Females bearing eggs must be released unharmed.
• Crabs must be caught in legal mud crab pots that comply with NT Fishing regulations.

• NT Legislation: Maximum of 5 pots or dillies per person with a maximum of 10 pots or dillies per vessel when 2 or more people are on board.
• Land based crabbing is not considered within the rules of the Mud Crab competition.
• Mud Crab pots are placed into the water no sooner than 6am on the day of the advertised competition date. Mud Crab pots left out overnight prior to the competition dates will result in automatic disqualification.
• Event ends at 4pm, competitors need to be back onsite at the DTBC by this time. Arriving after 4pm is an automatic disqualification, no exceptions will be considered.
• Presentation for Saturday events will occur in the Fisho’s Bar and Sunday event is held under the Green Sales (subject to changes).

• Please consider sustainable fishing and only keep the Mud Crabs you intend to enter the competition or for personal consumption. Keep the catch to a minimum.
• Winners will be judged by the largest Buck, Jenny and Sand Crab caught on the day.
• Points are accumulated over the 3 competition dates to determine the DTBC Mud Crab champion.
• Skippers are responsible for their own safety of the boat and crew on competition days.
• Registration is used to confirm competitor’s safety if required. Please contact the DTBC if you did not fish the event or are unable to return to the DTBC for the presentation by 4pm to be ticked off as safe.
• Participants must be kind and caring, with no hate speech or bullying.
• There will be no cash or other alternative to the prize offered and prizes are not transferrable.
• The Competition is run with honesty and integrity by all competitors on the day per the rules stated above.
• It is the responsibility of entrants to acknowledge that any failure to comply with these rules could lead to disqualification without reasons being given or opportunity for challenge.
The Judge’s decision is final, and no protests can occur after the winner is announced.
