Peppa Pig fans can swap muddy puddles for some festive fun as Darlington’s popular ice sculpture trail returns to the town centre.
Peppa and SpongeBob Squarepants are just two of the characters who will be soaking up the atmosphere at this year’s event thanks to the generous support of local businesses and organisations.
A total of 14 magical ice sculptures, including well known characters, Christmas classics and a few surprises, will be unveiled around the town centre on Saturday 13 December, from 11am until 4pm.
Families are invited to take part in the trail and explore the town centre – there’s also the chance for youngsters to have a go at an interactive carving wall in Joseph Pease Place.
The sculptures will be dotted around the town centre including DL1, Grange road, Duke Street and Northgate. Trail maps will be available at each location on the day and can be seen online at the Enjoy Darlington website www.enjoydarlington.co.uk nearer the time.
There will also be a chance to enter competition to with a selection of prizes including vouchers and tickets to this year’s fabulous pantomime, Goldilocks and the Three Bears at Darlington Hippodrome.
Katie Greenwood, Darlington Borough Council’s town centre partnership and events officer, said: “Our ice sculpture trail has become something of a tradition and is a popular part of our festive events programme.
“We’d like to say a huge thank you to all the businesses and organisations who have sponsored this year’s event and look forward to seeing everyone taking part.
“It’s a great way for families to get together and have some fun while also enjoying all Darlington town centre has to offer, with some fantastic shops for your Christmas shopping and lots of cafes, bars and restaurants to take time out for a drink and a bite to eat.”
This year’s ice sculpture trail has been sponsored by Northumbrian Water, Babuls, Carvers Estate Agents, Darlington College, Cornmill Shopping Centre, Queen Street Shopping Centre, DL1, Arriva, Darlington Hippodrome, Invest in Darlington, Hinson Security and Darlington Markets.
