The 101 - Introduction to Shibari

Join us for a hands-on introduction to the art of Japanese rope bondage — also known as Shibari.

This immersive 3-hour experience offers a respectful, safety-focused approach to the cultural, emotional, and technical foundations of rope play.

Whether you're brand new or refining your skills, this workshop delivers foundational techniques and concepts to enhance your intimate and artistic experiences.

Course Overview:

Participants will explore the historical and cultural dimensions of Shibari while practicing a variety of essential knots and ties, including:

• Overhand Knot
• Lark’s Head (Girth Hitch)
• Munter Hitch
• Somerville Bowline
• Reverse Tension
• Weaving and Vining
• Hishi Karada (Rope Dress)
• Star Chest Harness
• Bunny Tie
• Exploding Mayfly

Sessions include hands-on instruction, guided partner work, safety training, and creative exploration. We’ll conclude with additional resources for continued practice and growth.

Collaborative Tying

What You'll Learn:

• Cultural Origins: Hojojutsu, Kinbaku, Shinto influences, and the evolution of Shibari
• Safety First: Anatomy, nerve awareness, equipment care, emotional check-ins
• Consent and Communication: SSC, the Wheel of Consent, and Collaborative Tying
• Aesthetic and Sensory Focus: Learn to “dress” the body with rope and follow the pleasure

Absolutely 0 Shibari experience required! We will provide ropes, mats, and expert instruction.

Flying Solo? No problem! Let us know if you want to "top" (tie) or "bottom" (be tied), and we'll pair you up the best we can. If needed, you can even work directly with the instructors.
