Reverend Kathy Russell, known in the music world as DJ Reverend Kathy Russell or simply The Rev, is a pioneering drum and bass DJ, producer, and event organizer based in Austin, Texas. Beginning her journey in 1995 with the ambient radio show “Rainbow Freestyle” on KVRX 91.7 FM, her mixes quickly gained international attention. In 1996, she founded Ambient Camping, a long-running series of outdoor chill-out events combining music and nature. Inspired by the UK’s drum and bass movement, Kathy helped shape Austin’s early scene as a co-founder of Rollers Redefined, one of the first all-female D&B collectives in the U.S. Known for high-energy, face-melting sets that have shared stages with icons like Andy C, Roni Size, Noisia, and Ed Rush & Optical, she remains a fixture in collectives such as MANIFEST and SUBstanceTX. As a producer, Reverend Kathy Russell has released tracks on labels including We Records, Grid Recordings UK, RocknBass, and Quaziscience Recordings, with standout collaborations like “Fish Filet” as one half of Form & Funktion. Her contributions continue to influence Texas’s underground electronic scene while resonating with drum and bass communities worldwide.
