Kiest Conservation Area Work Day

We need your help! This Saturday, August 9th, starting at 8 am, we will be working in the Kiest Conservation Area. Our primary task will be the continued prairie restoration work at the Meadow Loop Trail. This “Native Blackland Prairie Meadow” is considered to be the best example of tall grass prairie in Dallas County according to Parks Department officials. Well over 160 different species of wildflowers and native grasses have been identified. Sixty year old overhead pictures of the area showed a six acre meadow within the wooded 78 acres of the KCA. Since that time, invasive have encroached breaking the area into three separate islands. We will be working on the continued efforts to reconnect those islands into one continuous stand. We will be meeting in the outdoor classroom area on the west side of the park. FOCP partner, Greenspace Dallas will be there helping out. Enter the park at the main entrance at the corner of Hampton and Kiest. After parking at the kiosk parking lot, walk 80 feet up the entrance trail to the outdoor classroom. Water and bug spray provided.
